BYOK model preferences
When using BYOK, you can configure which models Youbooks should use for different tasks.
Where to configure model preferences
- Click your user icon (top-right)
- Go to Profile
- Open the model preferences section (same area as “My Keys”)
Workflow steps you can configure
Typical categories include:
Structuring & Brainstorming
Creates your book’s structure/outline and initial ideas before writing begins.
Agentic Discussion (select up to 3)
Multiple models collaborate to debate approaches and refine the content.
Writer
Writes the manuscript content (style is applied here).
Editor
Reviews and polishes the written content before delivery.
Note: Only Gemini models are supported for the Editor task.
Reasoning
Used for complex logical/analytical tasks within workflows.
Note: OpenAI is required for reasoning tasks in workflows.
A note on model tiers
Youbooks may limit extremely expensive “high-tier” models because they often aren’t cost-effective for long book workflows.
If you’re unsure, start with lower-tier defaults and only upgrade if you see consistent quality benefits.
